T2. Agent Technology in Agile Production and Product Support
Dr. Leo van Moergestel, Utrecht University, The Netherlands

This tutorial starts with an overview of manufacturing and its newest trends and requirements. The use of standard software and the use of agent technology are discussed and the focus will be on an implementation of an agent-based agile production grid. The reason why agent technology is used and the situations where this approach might be useful are given. The second part of the tutorial focusses on the roles of agents in other parts of the lifecycle of a product. This use of agents fits in the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) and can lead to better use of the product as well as support for maintenance and repair. Finally, recycling can also benefit from products enhanced by agent technology.
