Dr. Wolfgang Narzt

Dr. Wolfgang Narzt was born near Linz (Austria) in 1972. He graduated in Computer Science in 1997 in a cooperative project with Daimler Benz Airospace in Ulm (Germany). In 2000 he obtained his PhD at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in the course of a EU cooperation with Siemens (Germany), VOEST-Alpine (Austria), and Mandator Technics (Sweden). Title of the thesis: "Design Patterns for Process Automation Systems".

From 2000 to 2006 he worked at the Department for Pervasive Computing at the University of Linz where he was responsible for several cooperative R&D projects with Siemens Corporate Technology in Munich (Germany). The main research focus in this time has been augmented reality in combination with location-based services. An augmented reality-based car navigation system and its pendant for pedestrians has been accredited for patent in the US and EU.

Since 2006 he has been working at the Department for Business Informatics at the University of Linz. The R&D focus has shifted to mobile computing, human computer interaction, and, accordingly, machine-to-machine (m2m) communication for mobile location-based services. He was the head of a series of national and international research projects for mobile location-based services (e.g., in cooperation with MAN trucks, Hödlmayr International, Austrian Railways federation, etc.) and has transferred scientific research results into industry products, thus bridging research and industry on a common level.
