Prof. Dr. Mo Mansouri

Dr. Mo Mansouri is a Professor and Director for Graduate Studies as well as Director for Systems Engineering Programs and Socio-technical Systems Program at the School of Systems and Enterprises at Stevens Institute of Technology. He is also serving as a Visiting Professor of the Department of Science and Industry Systems at the University of North-Eastern Norway. His research focuses on developing computational governance frameworks, applied to creating incentive structures and designing policies for complex networks and infrastructure systems. This happens through integration of data, sensing, and crowd sourcing, analysis through custom-designed dashboards and aims at understanding and influencing patterns of collective behaviors in societal systems. He has also partially worked on resilience design and engineering for large-scale systems to secure them against systemic vulnerabilities when facing disruptiveness of any kind such as environmental factors, market fluctuations, emergence of new technologies, as well as man-made disasters.

He received his doctoral degree from The George Washington University in Engineering Management and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Industrial Engineering from University of Tehran and Sharif University of Technology.  Prior to joining Stevens, as a part of his professional responsibilities, he served as advisors to several entrepreneurial projects as well as social entrepreneurship programs at Silicon Valley. He continues to serve at the same capacity within the Stevens’ incubator.  He served several international development organizations and non-profits such as The World Bank and The United Nations as a research fellow and consultant, working on variety of projects for development programs, namely, strategic philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. He is published in many scientific journals and on a range of large-scale systems domains from air and maritime transportation, to financial and energy systems, such as in IEEE Systems Journal, Journal of Operational Risk, Marine Policy, Maritime Policy and Management, Enterprise Information Systems, and Transportation Research Record to mention some. He has also co-authored six book chapters on topics related to systems policy and governance.

Dr. Mansouri is an active member of his academic societies. He has been chairs of several tracks and special sessions at IEEE Systems and System of Systems conferences, DESIGN, ICED, CSER, CESUN, ICONS and INCOSE. He also serves as a scientific member of these communities, and reviewer for their conferences and journals. He co-founded, co-directed, or collaborated with several labs and research centers such as, Innovative Governance of Large Urban Systems (IGLUS), which is based at EPFL, as well as Center for Complex Adaptive Systems, Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC), Center for Research on Complex Systems and Enterprises, and Immersion Lab, which are all located at Stevens.
