Dr. Gino Carrozzo

Dr. Gino Carrozzo is Deputy Head of R&D at Nextworks, an Italian R&D SME with long term experience in design and development of SDN and NFV control frameworks, IoT solutions for Smart Homes and Smart Buildings, large scale IP networks.

Gino holds 15+ years experience in telecommunication networks with focus on control plane architectures and protocols: SDN/NFV, IoT, MPLS, GMPLS/ASON, VPWS/VPLS, MPLS-TP and PBB-TE, etc. These skills matured through the active participation in industrial projects with some of the major networking companies (Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Siemens, Italtel), consultancies for network operators (Interoute, Wind), participation to standard organizations (IETF, ETSI NFV) and R&D projects with leading Telco industries and renowned universities and research centres around the world.

Gino is steering the R&D strategy and developments of the r&d team in the 5g, sdn/nfv and IoT areas. His research activities are currently focused on sdn/nfv for 5g networks, network slicing, network service chaining, management and orchestration of fronthaul/backhaul resources, virtualization and containers, architectures for the seamless integration of Internet Connected Objects with programmable software defined networks. Gino leads a group of engineers who successfully participate in many research projects on 5G, IoT and Factories of the Future.

Gino holds an Italian Laurea degree "cum laude" in Electronic Engineering and a Ph.D. in Telecommunications Networks, both from the University of Pisa.
