Workgroup Meeting, February 4th, 2009 - Cancun, Mexico
17:30 - 19:40

Attendance: 37

Agenda:

  • According to the program, three exciting special presentations were exposed by Hans Ossebaard, Mariano Groiso, and Shayne Stenhouse
    See: http://www.iaria.org/conferences2009/eTELEMED09.html
  • The presentations are posted at http://www.iaria.org/speeches.html
  • One of the main topics was to diligently identify the health specialist versus IT specialists when papers are reviewed
  • It was question of enlarging the Advisory Committee for a better promotion; the Board is evaluating the right technical and geographical balance for issuing additional invitations
  • Many suggestions were received from Paul Grant (expanding in USA), Hans Ossebaard and  Lisette van Gemert (better coverage in EU), Sofie Van Hoecke and Philip Leroux (on decoupling IT/health reviewers. location), Elaine Lawrence (links with learning) , Adina Astilean, (focus on practical applications), S. E. Hegazy (on application support), etc.
  • The Poster session was very well received.
  • The submissions proven that separating eTELEMED from ICDS was good move, decided in Martinique, 2008; yet a few contributors submitted to ICDS for health related issues; hopefully in 2010 the contributions will be more directed, as the separation is known now.

Suggestions:

Next steps:

  • A better health/IT balance in designating the reviewers is needed
  • A bigger representation and participation from the USA/Canada is suitable
  • It was suggested to keep continuing with special invited talks in global issues

eTELEMED 2010:

  • Announce the new topics with the CfP for eTELEMED 2010
  • Location: yet to be defined, most probably in Caribbean area, February-March 2010
  • Under Digital World 2010
