and an expert panel:

  • Scale, Responsiveness and Innovation in Future Networking

Tutorials are posted at http://www.iaria.org/tutorials.html

Keynote speeches are posted at http://www.iaria.org/speeches.html

Discussions:

  • The promotion of young researches and PhD candidates was again reinforced; they can play different roles, and they are encouraged of being session chairs.
  • An open call to suggest regular refresh to the topics for ICN 2011was launched
  • Please have a look at ICN 2011
    Suggestions are welcome at petre@iaria.org
  • The procedure of invitation-only for extended versions of selected papers among those presented for on-line IARIA journals, with no additional fees, was appreciated.
    See: www.iariajournals.org

Suggestions:

  • Continue with ‘Poster’ and ‘Work in Progress’ tracks
  • Definitively, the technical program committee must be tuned to reflect new topics and assure a fair peer-to-peer review process.

Special topics for further consideration:

  • It is the IARIA Board position that everybody should benefit the same access and service during the conference; some suggested to have partial services and reduced registration fees for students. A detailed discussion went on the structure of the registration fees, simply sharing with the audience where each penny goes.
  • A particular suggestion will be implemented from the next event: Student Consortium.
  • Another suggestion was to have many POPs; while feasible, the drawback is that this will split the community. A try will be prepared for the next event.

Proceeding publications:

  • The option to publish in an open digital library was discussed; this will allow having all the proceedings of the co-located events on the same CD Proceedings, and full free access to any publication.
  • This issue will be carried further on to the IARIA Board to careful attention.
  • It was suggested that some national research Centers encourage scientist to rather publish in openly searchable digital libraries.

Next steps:

  • Develop the new topics via off-line exchanges
  • Extend invitations for ICN 2011 committee membership
  • Attract scientists in the committee to cover the newly intended areas

Natalie Krivinski suggested a flavor on business aspects across all conferences, mostly on EMERGING. As her action item, the draft proposal is:

Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Economics:

Advances in information and communication technologies are transforming markets and operations in many industries. Information is now a core component of production processes, enabling new value chains and innovative partnerships. On the supply side, information goods are being dematerialized, restructured, and distributed at negligible costs. On the demand side, consumers are collaborating in the design of product and services, through personalization and the exchange of opinions in online communities. Economic theories and methodologies are increasingly applied to understand these evolutions and provide insights into how IS resources will add value. This track encourages submissions of research related to the use of IS in organizations and the economics of information and communication technologies. Theoretical and empirical papers are welcome.

e-Business and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT):

This track is concerned with information systems research issues related to global ICT and e-Business management. ICT and e-Business have enabled enterprises to manage their global business activities effectively. The common threads are (1) the digitization of processes, products, and services; (2) the incorporation of networked infrastructure integrating computer networks, the Internet, and mobile technologies; and (3) the continuing transformation and innovation of value chains due to globalization and e-Business opportunities.
While research in ICT and e-Business has shown greater maturity, there are opportunities related to models, methodology, applications, and emerging issues. In addition, the economic activities pushing ICT and e-Bbusiness toward incorporating more and more digitization, electronic links, and globalization have added new dimensions and complexity to most, if not all, business decisions, processes, and strategies. And this has clearly become a global phenomenon.
In this track, we are interested in issues related to, but not limited by, research topics such as:

  • ICT and e-Business management
  • E-business issues and developments
  • ICT governance for e-Business
  • Service management innovation related to e-Business
  • Economic models for ICT and e-Business opportunities
  • Standards development and management
  • Developments in marketing and operations enabled by ICT and e-Business
  • IT strategy and risks managing

Information Systems and their Application to the e- and m-Business

This track includes research topics related to the design, development, utilization, and impact of information systems and applications on electronic commerce and mobile commerce. Issues may include organizational, social, behavioral, cultural, economic, technical, global, and policy making aspects of such systems from diverse perspectives of all involved stakeholders, such as buyers, suppliers, IS developers and designers, end users, and policy makers.

Examples of specific topics include, but are not limited to,

  • Behavioral-related issues such as trust, risk, satisfaction, personalization, privacy, and fraud
  • Design, adoption, and use of mobile technologies and applications in (web)commerce
  • Economics of e-commerce, including auction, pricing, and advertising
  • Emerging web-based technologies such as web services, semantic web, and their related business strategies and impacts
  • E-communities, web-based knowledge networks, and the digital divide in e-commerce
  • Global and cultural issues in developing successful information systems
  • Issues related to the organizational adoption and use of information systems and e-commerce policies and design
  • Online auction marketplaces and their feedback and institutional technologies
  • Standards and regulations

IT Strategy and Management

This track invites papers that focus on topics related to IT strategy and IT management. Papers that explore topics related to the strategic management and use of information technology in enterprises and networks are relevant. We also welcome papers that explore the emergent ways in which IT-based products and services have shifted industry boundaries and competitive spaces and the corresponding strategic implications for organizations. Papers that address the IT management challenges in contemporary organizations that transcend the traditional functional role of IS are also appropriate for this track. The track also welcomes papers that bring fresh empirical evidence to the more established research questions such as those pertaining to IT strategy and profitability, competition, and business value. We invite conceptual, theoretical, and empirical papers drawing on a range of strategic, organizational, and management theories. This track is open to papers at different levels of analysis and using a variety of methodological approaches. The research topics addressed in the papers submitted to this track might relate to some of the trends mentioned above, or to other aspects of IT strategy and leadership.
