Dr. Vitor Vaz da Silva

Vitor Vaz da Silva is Portuguese and presently teaches at Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL), that belongs to the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa (IPL), in the Electronics Telecommunication and Computer Engineering Department (ADEETC).

At the same Institute he received his Bacharelato in 1987, and started there his teaching career. By 1990 he received his Licenciatura at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), in Lisbon. His master’s degree, Mestrado, was also at IST in 1997 with a thesis on "Real Time Mission Control System for Autonomous Vehicles". His PhD, Doutoramento, was achieved at the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-UNL), in Caparica, with a thesis in "Reconfigurable Photonic Logic Architecture".

Dedicated to teaching he taught, for more than a year in each place, at Universidade Moderna (UM), Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FE-UCP), ATEC-Training Academy, Escola Profissional Gustave Eiffel (EPGE), and at ISEL for more than twenty years, in areas of Digital Systems, Microcontrollers, Programing, Information Systems, Communications and Electronics.

As a researcher he has been involved in projects at Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica (ISR/IST), Unidade de Sistema Nervoso Autónomo (USNA-FM) and Centre of Technology and Systems (CTS-UNINOVA). Presently his interests are in the Internet of Things, Cyber Physical Systems and remote sensing.
