Prof. Dr. Maria E. Orlowska

Prof. Maria E. Orlowska, is an expert in computer science, specifically in databases and business IT systems with focus on modelling and enforcement issues of business processes.

She holds MSc in Mathematics from University of Warsaw, PhD from Warsaw University of Technology (1981) and DSc from the University of Queensland in Australia (2003).
Since 2004 she has been a member of the Australian Academy of Science.

Recently, in 2013 she accepted Doctorate of Science Honoris Causa of the University of Queensland.

In 1988-2007 she worked at the Queensland University where, since 1990, as a professor at the CS Department.

Prof. Orlowska has authored/co-authored over 300 publications in international scientific journals. Her scientific career and focus at practical aspects of scientific work have brought her prestigious international honours and distinctions such as membership in the VLDB Trustees Board and various IT Awards.  However, her greatest impact can be felt through her over 36 graduated PhD students. In November 2007 prof. Orlowska became an Honorary Professor of the University of Queensland and she returned to Poland.  She was appointed as the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in January 2008. Subsequently, she was appointed as the Secretary of State in Ministry of Finance and in June 2012 again appointed as the Secretary of Stare in Ministry of Science and Higher Education till the end of 2013. Since then, she is a professor at Polish-Japanese Academy of IT.
