Dr.Diglio Simoni

Diglio Simoni is a senior HPC [High Performance Computing] scientist in the Research Computing Division at RTI International. He began his career working with the Hypercube group (SAR Image Processing) at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, worked in the Virtual Wind Tunnel project (Virtual Reality) at NASA Ames Research Center, and spent a decade in industrial. His academic training is in computer science, life sciences, neuroscience, physics, and mathematics. Simoni specializes in the use of technologically advanced methodologies, especially HPC, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), advanced visualization techniques, and web-based solutions for the design and implementation of a wide variety of projects in scientific data manipulation, analysis and interpretation. These projects include back-end database system design and connectivity for real-time transactions, specification and analysis of bandwidth requirements, and the design and implementation of efficient user interfaces.

He currently serves as senior computational scientist in the Models of Infectious Disease Agent Study (MIDAS) for the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), where he provides computational support for scientific needs in HPC, including the design and development of advanced visualization tools and the parallelization of large agent-based simulation codes for a network of research groups in the US and the UK. Simoni has led teams of software developers and biostatisticians in developing bioinformatics tools and is involved in many aspects of system development, including requirements analysis, object-oriented analysis and design, configuration management, and programming. He is a technical visionary with a wide breadth of expertise and interests.
